Mangareva, the floating mountain, is the largest island of the Gambier. Its thick and rich vegetation is the result of a mix between different species. Along with the slow natural process of migration of new plants transported by the wind and the streams. Another one, faster, was constituted by the arrival of new colonists and sailors who imported their own specimen of plants and animals. Although a part of the existing ecosystem was destroyed in the process it also contributed to creating a new and diversified one.
